A simple inexpensive yet elegant hair accessory. The advantage is that hairstyles employed using hair sticks do not break hair like other hair fasteners might. Ours are primarily made using Speckled Alder which grows in the area in great abundance. It is a soft flexible hardwood generally pale in colour. It is usually used in the making of rustic furniture. Other types of wood that we may be able to offer in smaller quantities are Maple, Birch, White Elm (very limited), Choke Cherry, Pin Cherry, Black Willow and Black Spruce (not recommended).
The sticks in the photo are unfinished and are a little thicker than I usually make them now. We offer them without a finish, boiled linseed oil and polyurethane. We currently have two stain colours available. The one calls itself redwood and gives an orange-brown colour to the wood and the other is walnut and give a dark brown colour to the hair sticks.
The sticks come in two different profiles round or triangular (which may hold better in some hair types). End treatments vary. I can easily make conical, forty-five-degree slant, rounded as well as several types of grooves. I'm open to discussing various other simple designs. My skill as a carver and my equipment is limited.
